1. Project Introduction
XYO is a blockchain oracle: an interface layer between smart contracts and the physical world. It is a hardware-agnostic verification network that runs on IoT devices, sensors, and smart phones.
XYO's Proof of Origin and Bound Witness protocol ensure high-certainty sensor data like temperature, humidity, location, pressure, etc. for smart contracts to interact with. After 10 months of development and 500,000 lines of code, the XYO Network went live on November 9, 2018 at 10:25am.
In front of 1,000 of its community members at its First Annual Geospatial Blockchain conference "SPATIAL". The world's first peer-to-peer location-reliant transaction was executed when the Ethereum Blockchain called out to the XYO network, which resulted in 0.25 ETH being transferred from one wallet to another after two devices came into contact.
The XYO Network relies on a people-powered network wherein anyone can setup devices and effectively become "Geominers". The protocol is completely open and permissionless. XYO unlocks a new category of decentralized applications, called "Geodapps". The world's first Geodapp, a retro-game called "Save Rasheed" (https://saverasheed.com/) went live on November 9, 2018.
In just 10 months, the XYO Network has grown to a community of over 50,000 members, or #geohackers. The company behind the XYO Network is called "XY". They are a Delaware C-Corporation founded in 2012, which operates a hardware business which has sold over 1 million hardware devices to date. 400,000 of these devices will soon be able to opt into the XYO Network.
